Swedish Health Services Environmental Services Supervisor - First Hill in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Supervisor (1.0 FTE, Days) to work in Environmental Services at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, Washington.

We are seeking a Supervisor, Environmental Services who will supervise a multidisciplinary team that maintains the physical environment of the hospital at the highest level of cleanliness, both from an appearance and infection control standpoint. Responsible for overseeing and developing the Environmental Services staff that functions in ancillary, inpatient, outpatient, clinic, and office areas. Supervise workers, coaches for improvement, reviews performance and assesses competency to ensure compliance with safety, infection control and regulatory standards. Interviews applicants, orients and schedules new hire training. Conducts continuing education sessions inclusive of written competency assessments. Writes and delivers performance evaluations. Participates in departments annual budgeting processes and is responsible for managing budgeted resources

In this position you will:

  • Plan for and ensure adequate staffing in all areas maintained by Environmental services

  • Prepare all required employee and departmental documentation. Ensure accurate and complete information is submitted in a timely manner

  • Interview, hire and orient new employees. Prepare a written training schedule, documents employee’s competency, complete required evaluations at conclusion of 90 day training period

  • Meet regularly with multi-disciplinary team to review work quality, resolve problems/issues.

  • Monitor technicians to ensure compliance with all established medical center safety procedures, including adherence to MSDS, personal protective equipment, and standard precaution guidelines.

  • Conduct written quality inspections of assigned areas, submit work order requests and ensures follow up on reported quality and maintenance issues. Document deficiencies and training needs, follow through to ensure completion of training and competency.

  • Schedule, facilitate, and/or conduct regular training/education programs to maintain or enhance staff knowledge/skill. Conduct skills assessment to ensure staff competency on equipment, cleaning, industry standards or regulatory protocols/techniques

  • Assist in preparing an annual Lead Development program specific to individuals. Coaches and mentors leads in developing skills and leadership knowledge

  • Demonstrate budgetary skills; participates in development of annual capital and expense budget, review monthly reports, implement inventory controls that support allocated supply expenses, monitor labor hours and expense, participates in forecasting staffing trends


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent from a 2 year technical/trade school OR Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three (3) years experience demonstrating lead or supervisory experience in a healthcare environment or guest services environment
