Swedish Health Services Line Cook Ballard, Seattle, WA in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Line Cook (0.7 FTE, Variable Shift) to work in Nutrition Services at Swedish Ballard in Seattle, WA.

The Line Cook is responsible for preparing food products utilizing basic and advanced cooking techniques, standardized recipes and plating guidelines, meeting production schedules in accordance with health, safety, and sanitary procedures. Responsible for processing food items, ensuring proper utilization and storage of food and supplies and for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work areas. Performs related tasks as required.

Must be able to take order directly from the customer and read, interpret and expedite customer orders in an organized and timely manner. Must be able to work under the pressure of stringent time constraints and remain calm and organized. Direct customer service and contact with customers in the retail areas is also a requirement of this position.

In this position you will:

  • Accurately complete issue requisitions as assigned. Inventories, orders appropriate amounts of product and stock supplies in work area as required, updating issue requisitions as needed during the day so that accurate costs are allocated to the appropriate areas

  • Take and record temperatures of food, refrigerators and assures sanitizing solution is at the proper level. Record measurements throughout each shift on the appropriate log. Takes action if discrepancies are indicated. Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail. Complete daily documentation thoroughly and accurately

  • Take orders directly from customers and cook; prepares orders in a timely manner. Work well under the pressure of stringent time constraints and remains calm and organized

  • Demonstrate attention to detail. Prepare all items with the utmost care, assesses quality of food products. Determine acceptability for service and takes appropriate action

  • Coordinate the overall flow in the service pick-up areas and the flow of food off the cook’s lines staying within the guidelines of the one piece flow process


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Current State of Washington Food Handler Permit

  • One (1) year related food preparation experience. The related experience must be from a full service food service operation such as a hotel or restaurant where the majority of the products were prepared on the premises from fresh ingredients
