Swedish Health Services Material Distribution and Receiving Technician - First Hill in Seattle, Washington

Description:

Swedish Medical Center is calling for an Material Distribution And Receiving Technician (1.0 FTE, Variable Shift) to work in First Hill at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA.

The Material Distribution and Receiving Technician utilizes a computerized MMIS (Materials Management Information System) and associated hardware / software, to conduct physical inventories, replenishment of supply areas (such as patient care and ancillary areas), receive incoming stock and non-stock freight and parcel shipments, and put away inventory items. Prepares and coordinates outgoing parcel and freight shipments. This position is also responsible for processing fax, phone, electronic order entry, and walk up supply requests in the MSC. Enters data into the MMIS in order to inventory, pick, deliver, and stock products associated with the aforementioned functions, all with a high level of accuracy to ensure accountability for all products and equipment in the MSC (Materials Service Center). Delivers stock and non-stock products, and packages to the appropriate department / areas. Rotates stock in MSC inventories, and on par levels on a first-in/first-out basis in accordance with departmental and industry standards. This position has regular interactions with internal and external customers, including co-workers, other Swedish employees, patients and visitors, representatives from other hospitals and various vendors. May support mail function as needed.

In this position you will:

  • Conducts physical inventory / par level replenishment of supply areas, such as patient care and ancillary areas.

  • Receives, processes and delivers phone, fax, walk-up and electronic supply requests.

  • Delivers supplies, and equipment along with parcel freight and non-stock items to the various supply and ancillary areas as directed.

  • Rotates stock in MSC Inventories and on par levels on a first-in/first-out basis for all items that do not have manufacture expiration dates printed on the item and/or packaging. Rotates stock in MSC Inventory and on par levels on an earliest expiration date first-out basis for all items that do have manufacture expiration dates printed on the item and/or packaging.

  • Inspects all items for damage and expiration dates whenever handling materials, both in the MSC and in other supply areas.

  • Notifies supervisor or designee of discrepancies in on-hand counts, product shortages and emergent situations where a shortage or increased product demand is experienced or anticipated.

  • Conducts inventory cycle counts (or other physical inventory procedures, expiration date inspections) as directed by MSC supervisor or designee to ensure inventory accuracy and accountability for asset inventory.

  • Utilizes the MMIS to verify the quality, quantity and condition of incoming goods.

  • Follows department policy to notify purchasing and document discrepancies on parcel, freight or other shipments and resolves problem shipments as directed by purchasing or other supply chain management procedures in a timely manner.

  • Properly identifies and labels supplies, parcels and received items for delivery to supply and ancillary areas, using the MMIS or other tracking system when applicable to create an audit trail and account for the delivery of items as outlined by department procedures.

  • Prepares parcel and freight shipments for pick-up by various carriers.

  • Prioritizes the receipt and delivery of all expedited shipments, including air (FedEx, UPS Red, etc.), taxi cab, special courier, temperature sensitive, and all shipments designated “stat” or “rush” shipments by Purchasing or Supply Chain Management.

  • Assists with or supervises the unloading of trucks whenever necessary; limited dock space requires that trucks be unloaded quickly, efficiently.

  • Properly handles hazardous shipments (radioactive, corrosive, etc.), doing whatever is necessary to insure the safe and prompt delivery of these items while avoiding any unnecessary contact with them.

  • Performs duties following accepted materials handling procedures, including the safe operation of material handling equipment (hand truck, pallet jacks, etc.), insuring his/her safety, the safety of coworkers, and maintaining proper/good condition of merchandise/shipments.

  • Tries to locate interested party for items delivered to the dock that were not ordered through Supply Chain and are not identified as being on a purchase order (packages for patients, physicians, or other campus business operations etc.).

  • Properly handles sterile, fragile (glass, surgical instruments, etc.), frozen and refrigerated shipments, insuring that they are delivered promptly and protected from damage.

  • Collects and files or forwards all packing slips, invoices or other paperwork daily, to the appropriate department for record or to complete transactions.

  • Stocks materials in Point-of-use (Pyxis) supply stations, where applicable.

  • Effectively utilizes computers, computer software, the MMIS and associated hardware and software to accomplish the daily functions of the MSC.

  • Takes orders for and contacts rental equipment vendors to order and/or return equipment (specialty beds, wound vacuums etc.). Accurately maintains rental equipment records and forwards invoices per department policies.

  • Performs lead duties as assigned.

  • Adhere to Epic, HIPPA and Swedish Health Services confidentiality regulations.

Qualifications:

Required qualification:

  • 1 year of inventory systems, receiving, warehousing and/or supply distribution using a computerized MMIS in a perpetual inventory system within the previous three years

Preferred qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training in inventory and supply distribution management courses

  • Experience in a healthcare environment

  • Experience with material handling equipment (hand trucks, pallet jack, etc)
