Swedish Health Services Supervisor Respiratory Care - Respiratory Therapy in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Supervisor Respiratory Care (1.0 FTE, Evening Shift) to work in Respiratory Therapy at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Supervisor Respiratory Care is responsible for assisting the Director/Manager in providing overall leadership and direction for the unit or areas of responsibility and for creating an environment that fosters a multidisciplinary team and collaborative approach to care that achieves operational and clinical "Best Practice". Participates with the Director/Manager for overseeing all aspects of the care delivery system and works organizationally to improve service. Participates with the manager to create and implement an operational budget annually, monitoring performance monthly. Responsible for leading, coaching, mentoring and modeling service excellence behaviors to charge nurses and staff. Responsible with the Director/Manager for performing probationary and annual evaluations and developing expectations for staff in order to reach "best practice". Responsible with the Director/Manager for hiring and overseeing orientation of new employees. Works collaboratively with physician leaders to develop methods for improving the quality of care overall. With passion, skill, creativity, respect, and a positive approach, the Supervisor assumes accountability to peers, and functions as a strong team player in caring for patients. With self-direction and the ability to multitask, the supervisor assesses needs and patient expectations, delivers "best practice" to each patient and family member under his/her care. Collaborates with other team caregivers to achieve increased patient satisfaction, set and exceed patient expectations.

In this position you will:

  • Provide leadership with Director/Manager for the unit on a day to day operational basis.

  • Participate with the manager in leading the efforts for the unit to develop and achieve “best operational and clinical practice”. Reinforce positive outcomes and demonstrate corrective action for identified problems.

  • Accountable with the manager for ensuring the provision of patient care 24 hours a day. Round on patients to obtain insight into care provision and patient satisfaction.

  • Establish strong rapport with physicians, staff and peers. Communicate effectively.

  • Accountable with the manager for assigned clinical operations, patient care activities, coordinating patient care delivery on a daily basis in collaboration with other members of the health care team.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of accredited two-year respiratory therapy educational program

  • Must be registry eligible with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Must be a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner with the Washington State Department of Health under Chapter 18.89 RCW

  • 5 years recent experience in respiratory therapy with demonstrated clinical knowledge and leadership qualities

  • 2 years Lead experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials

  • Active member of the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC)
